Atitlan.com was started in 1997 as a guide to hotels in Mayan villages around the lake. Over the years it has gone through many changes, and traffic has steadily grown, making it one of Guatemala's most visited travel sites.

When I started Atitlan.com I felt that most travel sites, be they about Guatemala or not, were little more than advertisements, and I wanted to do more than just sell hotel rooms (though I certainly want to do that too). Atitlan.com also became a travel magazine in which, via the internet, I share this spectacular lake and the Mayans who call it home, with the world.

As a Guatemalan travel magazine, students can use Atitlan.com as an educational resource (see the copyright page). Those considering a vacation to Guatemala and Lake Atitlan can get an idea of what the country and the lake have to offer.

With the formation of the Lake Atitlan Resort Association and the Tropical Travel Association travelers can book a room online at one of our small, independent hotels around the lake or anywhere in Guatemala.
